We stayed one night as we were touring the area. We brought coffee to make in the morning, and enjoyed the birds in the yard. We drove 30 min to get a lovely breakfast at a local diner. There were lovely perks from the host and it would be a great place for crafters.

Perfect spot for a girls getaway. Close enough to area sights but in a peaceful country setting. Everything we might have needed and beyond was provided. The place was clean, the beds were comfortable and the porch was our favorite spot! We all said we would definitely stay here again.

Charming house in SE MN. We had a quick and comfortable stay in The Hen House. We aren't crafters but it would be a great set up for a crafting group get away. The beds were comfortable, the house super clean, the kitchen big and stocked with equipment, and communication with the owner could not have been better. There is a cute firepit out back that we didn't have a chance to use due to rain but the setting is among lovely farm land. We would stay again.

Fall Getaway Mini-retreat. Cozy, loved the chicken decor throughout the house. We were very impressed with how much was provided and all the little extras...chocolates at the bedside, toiletries, etc. A couple of us have issues with stairs and wished there was a railing all the way up. It was a perfect place for the fellowship and sharing time we spent together plus not far from the tourist activities we wanted to do. Mostly we were there to just relax and get refreshed. If we're ever in the area again, I know where we'll stay! Thanks for everything.

Out of the busy towns, very nice and quiet. Many small towns within a short distance to travel to. We enjoyed our time there to visit, play games, travel to shop or get a bite to eat. Very relaxing loved sitting on the front porch.

Girls Weekend. We enjoyed the quiet country setting. The setup was perfect for our crafting. Couldn't get the TV to work but we didn't have a lot of time for that anyways. Thanks Chris for the wonderful stay.

Girls Retreat. This property was set up perfectly for crafting or whatever your thing may be! Our group of three loved the large tables where we sat each night with our projects. Very cute place with everything you need. We would definitely stay here again.

Girls Getaway. Had a very relaxing time the The Hen House. Did a Girls Getaway went on an Amish Tour it was great. Enjoyed the tour guide he had a lot of information. Enjoy the baked good, rug, Jam, baskets at families we stopped at.

Cozy crafting. We enjoyed our stay at the cozy Hen House. The 5 of us each had enough space to work on our craft projects. The kitchen was just right for prepping meals and chatting around the table. The bedrooms were cute and the beds comfy. We will be adding the Hen House to our list of crafting retreat options!

Great place for peace and quiet. The Hen House is a great place to relax, spend time with family, work on projects, and explore the Bluff Country of Southeast Minnesota. The theme and decor are perfect.

Vacation Getaway. It is an older home, but we felt very comfortable staying there. It was a great place to return to after a day of sightseeing in the area. The house is well cared for and the owner made us feel very welcomed.

Mom and daughters extended weekend. The Hen House, located in a quiet neighborhood but close enough to other towns and attractions, has ample room to relax so you won’t feel like you are crowded. The living room area is comfortably divided by furniture and is spacious allowing some to read, watch a movie, or visit, while others can play cards, put together puzzles or projects. We were surprised to see all the amenities, extras, and the kitchen is well supplied and roomy. Chris has thought of everything. We forgot a couple things and Chris was kind enough to help us out. Nice porch area for morning coffee or take in the stars in the evening. We ran out of time to cook up some smores in the firepit area. The little chocolates by the bedside were fun and thoughtful. The house was clean and ready for us. Property owner responded to our questions and we enjoyed our interactions with Chris.

Off the grid and peaceful paradise. This was a girls getaway...wanting to be in a peaceful, quiet area with beautiful nature, but yet not too far from a town with groceries, gas, etc. This place hit it all. Charming, rustic house. Owner thought of everything, right down to chocolates by the bed. We couldn't have asked for a better place to get away! Thanks Hen House, we had an absolute blast!

Very nice rural house. There's a reason it's called the Hen House. If you love hens and quiet you'll be in heaven. Anywhere you look there're hens. When you step outside you'll hear the morning roosters.

Delightful Family Fall Stay. Chris has thought of every detail to ensure that guests have a perfect stay. She had great recommendations for us, which really made for a no-stress vacation with a toddler (which is saying something!). Finding chickens in the house provided hours of entertainment for our 1.5 yr old. We are counting down until our next return!

Sister weekend fun. I spent the weekend at the Hen House with my sisters and we had a lot of fun resting, talking, crafting, eating & in general making ourselves right at home!! Peaceful retreat. Our family had a lovely and relaxing stay. The front porch was nice in the morning with coffee. We enjoyed the fire pit and had s’mores while watching the fireflies. The owner went above and beyond to make our stay special, we will be back.

Five Clucks for The Hen House. We really enjoyed our stay here. Twice the Amish cruised past in their buggies. The town of Highland is quiet, The Hen House next door to a historic Lutheran church. It's about fifteen minutes outside of Lanesboro, so you're getting the full country experience here, including fireflies flickering over the corn fields while you roast marshmallows at the firepit.

The most welcoming house! The property was perfect for a girls' weekend getaway. Everything is well stocked, the host was fantastic to work with, and the home was adorable. The front porch is a wonderful place to gather in the evenings and all of the extra thoughtful touches made it very welcoming.

Awesome! What a wonderful home. It was equipped with EVERYTHING we needed for a nice family get away. We were able to drive the short 10 minute drive into Lanesboro to ride the amazing bike paths and tube down the Root River. Thank you for a wonderful retreat to social distance in! This property is a gem!

Great place for relaxation. Everything was wonderful. Chris is an excellent host, the house is exactly how it is listed and very cute. Your old home feel. All of the amenities were great. There was five of us and we all had plenty of room. We went into Lanesboro and saw a play on Friday night which was fabulous. "Boeing, Boeing". Saturday enjoyed the bike trails (rented bikes) did a little shopping came back and relaxed, showered and then went into dinner at the Old Village Inn Restaurant which I would highly recommend. (Reservations recommended). Then to end the evening we enjoyed a bonfire. It was a wonderful weekend. Thanks for your hospitality Chris!

Great place to stay near Lanesboro and Root River Valley. We loved the Hen House! It is very spacious and cozy. Chris has a great love for details, giving the house a very unique touch. In addition it comes with all amenities you could wish for, a fully equipped kitchen and a neat fire pit on the backyard. The property is conveniently located near the towns of Lanesboro and Preston. Chris is a great host and responds very quickly to requests. Thank you for having us!

Relaxation after golf. The Hen House, being designed mainly for women's getaways, was very nicely appointed for 4 tired male golfers. It provided a great place to relax, start a bonfire and have a few beers after our rounds. The beds were very comfortable.

FLYFISHERS AND BIKERS---HERE IT IS!!!!! Pretty much perfect for us as we enjoyed multiple beautiful rivers and creeks for fly-fishing the elusive trout AND, of course, THE ROOT RIVER BIKE TRAIL! If either of these activities interests you, then come here. The pleasant old house has room for 6, a large kitchen in which to cook your spaghetti and drink your wine, and a wonderful fire-pit in the back so you can relax at the end of the day and sit around as the sun sinks. You can also take nice LONG walks along the gravel roads and hear birds sing that you forgot existed if you came from a large town. And of course, riding your bike toward Lanesboro or Peterson or Preston allows for a cold drink and a warm flatbread (Lanesboro). The ROOT RIVER BIKE TRAIL is without compare and if you are knowledgeable and careful, the Morel mushroom season is currently rocking right along the bike trail. There is a lot to do out of this little snug house; I've given you a few ideas but I am sure you could think of more. If you just wanted a weekend away to read and think and cook and watch Netflix, this is it. Take your books and your slices of watermelon out on the front porch and sit on the chaise and get to it. One thing I forgot to mention; you could, as we did, fish the RAINBOW TROUT STOCKED POOL IN LANESBORO with your fly rod and then go for the flatbread and the wine. Summary=lots of things to do while knowing you had a little comfortable QUIET house to return to at the end of the day. Bonus point=the neighbors are nice and their dogs are beautiful. Thank you.

A Perfect Retreat. We were pleasantly surprised at the whole house. The kitchen was well furnished with everything we needed. The bedrooms were comfortable. They could use more clothes hooks. The upstairs bathroom was well done. We enjoyed the church next door.

Perfect Get-Away. We had a great experience at the Hen House - close to Lanesboro for shopping, bike riding and water fun. The fire pit in the back was the best - quiet and private - a place you can sit for hours and visit with friends. The home itself offered everything you need - just bring clothes/food/beverages and you will be set for the week-end. I would highly recommend a stay here.

A peaceful small town retreat with all the amenities. We spent a week at the Hen House located in a tiny, quiet town on a tree lined street with corn fields all around. There were no disruptions and the only noise we heard was the neighbors mowing their lawn. It was perfect for sleeping in. You might encounter a car or two on any given day. Or a tractor! The house itself is charming, having undergone a recent full renovation. It was super clean with a giant fully equipped kitchen where we cooked all our meals, making use of the crockpot especially. There is an IGA grocery in Rushford 13 miles away. The host provided plenty of bottled drinking water and we supplemented the rest. Full internet access and several local TV stations as well as plenty of movies to watch. Our kids especially enjoyed watching movies in their room. The bedrooms each have 2 cabin/twin beds with all the linens, towels and extra blankets supplied. We made use of the AC in each bedroom as August was a muggy month. The bathroom is so inviting, for sure one of our favorite rooms. As we did lots of fishing and exploring, daily showers were a nice treat. The house simply felt like home. The main living space is set up with large tables and great natural light perfect for artists and scrapbookers. If you do that, make sure to use the Cricut! We had many hours of fun with that using a few cartridges that were new to us. The space could easily be adapted for family reunions if the art space were not needed. We had a most enjoyable time there and plan to return for sure. Todd and Ina and family
